3 Ways To Remove Surf Wax From Your Bikini
Oct 12th 2018
Surfer girl PROBLEMS! Although wax is great to make sure you don't slide around on your board while you try to catch some nice sets, wax can wreck havoc on your bikini.
You can find our Bikini Care 101 article here for a refresher course on how to take care of your swimsuit, whether you live in Hawaii or otherwise!
1. Deep Clean
The first course of action you should take to remove wax from your swimsuit is to give it some love. While we usually wouldn't advise to use the washing machine for your bikinis, we'll let it slide in this scenario. Use a mild detergent that doesn't contain bleach, put your swimwear in a lingerie bag, and put your washing machine on the most delicate cycle on "Warm."
The washing machine will definitely save you some time from scrubbing at your bikini, while the warm water and detergent will help melt the wax away. Once done, DO NOT PUT YOUR SWIMSUIT IN THE DRYER (ever). Lay your freshly cleaned swimwear in a shady spot to dry.
2. Coconut Oil
There are so many uses for coconut oil, it's literally a gift from nature. Not only is it amazing to cook and moisturize with, coconut oil can help to remove stubborn surf wax, since it essentially melts it away from your swimsuit.
Grab any type of liquid coconut oil, and slowly apply it to your swimwear. Use a warm, damp wash cloth to help gently dab away the oil and wax. Once satisfied, opt to hand wash it or put it in the washer to get rid of the excess oil.
3. Ice, Ice, Baby
Another technique that can help to get wax off of your favorite bikini is to use ice! You will need a metal baking tray or any other thin metal dish, and a dull tool like a spoon that can help you pick off the wax once it hardens.
Start by putting the ice into the desired metal apparatus with a little bit of water. Let the ice and water sit until the metal tray/dish is very cold, then press the metal onto your swimsuit. Hold it against the suit until the wax starts to harden. Quickly chip off the wax with the spoon, and continue until wax is removed.
These are just a few tricks we've discovered that have helped our surfer #bowbabes. Have you used a better technique? Let us know!
Aloha, until next time xoxo
